What are the Black Studies Collaboratory’s main programs? 

Programs under the Black Studies Collaboratory (BSC) include: the Abolition Democracy Initiative’s Critical Conversations Series, the Abolition Democracy Fellows Program, the Global Black Feminisms Summer Lab, the Black Studies Open University, and the Black Futures Retreat. 

How can I get involved?

The best way to get involved with the BSC is to sign up for our listserv, which will keep you updated on events and BSC news. You can also access recordings of our past events on the Events page of our website. We encourage folks to share our event information widely via email and social media. 

Who funds the Black Studies Collaboratory?

The Black Studies Collaboratory is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Just Futures Initiative. 

What is the best way to stay up to date on Black Studies Collaboratory events?

Please sign up for our listserv, look at our joint twitter account with the African American Studies Department, and visit the Events page on our website. 

How do I collaborate with the BSC? 

The Black Studies Open University and Black Futures Retreat will be organized to embrace community collaboration including working with local businesses. Please look to our opportunities page for future Call for Applications for positions and grants that offer funding and collectivity for scholarly collaboration. Does the BSC offer public events?

Yes. See our archive of past public events now available as recordings. There will be public events in Fall 2021 under the Abolition Democracy Initiative Speaker Series. The Abolition Democracy Fellows Program will also offer public events. 

Does the BSC have a physical space?

Yes. The Black Studies Collaboratory exists in the Department of African American Studies at 660 Social Sciences Building Berkeley, CA 94720. We plan to work from these offices and host public events in this space if and when it is safe to do so beginning in Fall 2021.
